Student Congress is one of the most important beats we have at The Post. It represents the voice of the students. They have far-reaching ties into many other things across OU. They serve as student liaisons to the administration and Board of Trustees in addition to providing many student services and events throughout the year.

I've included a flow chart to try and describe the structure:

  • Student Activities Funding Board is in charge of funding student organizations that aren't directly funded through SAFAC fees. It's an ad hoc committee of OUSC which receives its own funding. The SAFB chair has an office within OUSC.
  • Student Program Board plans student events. It's also an ad hoc committee which receives SAFAC funding. It's right next door to OUSC.

Contact info:

President: contact on any events/initiatives announced. Far-reaching whole body issues as well.

VP:  This is the the person that runs the meetings so any meeting procedural questions would be directed at them as well as whole body issues.

Financial affairs: Contact this person on budget issues. Make sure you get a copy of this every semester. It will tell you what events and services Student Congress is planning on spending a significant amount of student money on.

Administrative assistant: Do not underestimate this position. This person runs elections in collaboration with an elections committee. They are the person that can tell you about potential rules violations as well as general info on who's running and how they can be contacted.

Visual communications: I guess maybe you would contact this person if there was a story you were doing about a lewd  sign of theirs. However, this person is also responsible for the website and they are horrible about keeping the minutes up to date.

Marketing: Position self-explanatory.

Student Program Board (SPB): This is an ad hoc committee of OUSC which receives its own SAFAC funding. It is responsible for entertainment-based events for the campus.

Student services: This position is responsible for OUSC service initiatives (Bear Bus, Bike Share, legal aid)

Multicultural Affairs: This position is responsible for events with a culture component.

Student Activities Funding Board (SAFB): An ad hoc committee of OUSC responsible for funding student organizations. It receives its own SAFAC funding.

Legislative affairs: Contact this person about the way things get passed.
